On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem as the Lamb of God. The Passover was being celebrated in Israel that week, and Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and crucifixion fulfilled the prophecies associated with the festival. The crowd welcomed Jesus as the Prince of Peace when He rode into the city on a donkey’s colt. They understood that this was the fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy. However, then, they spread palm branches on the road. This was a custom observed during the Feast of Tabernacles. In other words, Jesus entered Jerusalem to be crucified, but the crowd mistakenly believed He had come to save them from Roman oppression as a ruler. There was a gap between Jesus’ purpose and the crowd’s expectations. On that Thursday, Jesus shared a Passover meal with His disciples. Each dish held special significance and symbolized Jesus. The time had come to fulfill the prophetic rituals that had been observed for approximately 1,500 years. After the meal, Jesus prayed in anguish in the Garden of Gethsemane. Although He had the option to avoid the cross, He chose to obey God’s will and go to the cross. Jesus was arrested, put on trial, and crucified. Despite experiencing physical pain, mental humiliation, betrayal by His disciples, and taunts from the crowd, He prayed for the forgiveness of sinners. This is our God and Savior! Jews who did not accept Jesus as the Messiah have experienced much suffering ever since. Jesus is the dividing line between blessing and curse. Let us accept Him as our savior and receive His blessing.
棕櫚の聖日、イエスは神の小羊としてエルサレムに入城した。その週、イスラエルでは過越の祭りが祝われており、イエスのエルサレム入城と十字架の出来事は、その祭りに預言されていた事の成就であった。人々は平和の王としてイエスがロバの子に乗っ て来られた事を歓迎した。彼らはそれがゼカリヤの預言の成就である事を理解していたのだ。ところが、彼らは棕櫚の葉を道に敷いてイエスを迎えた。それは仮庵の祭りでの慣習であった。つまり、イエスは十字架に架かるためにエルサレム入城したが、群衆 は、彼がローマの圧制から自分達を救う統治者として来たと誤認したのだ。イエスの目的と群衆の期待にはギャップがあった。その週の木曜日、イエスは弟子達と共に過越の食事をした。その食事のメニュー一つ一つには意義があり、それらは全てイエスを象徴していた。約千五百年間に渡って行われてきた預言的儀式が遂に成就する時が来たのだ。食事の後、イエスはゲッセマネの園で苦悶の祈りを捧げた。彼には十字架を回避するという選択肢もあったが、神の御心に従って十字架に向かう事を決断した。捕えられたイエスは裁判を受け、十字架にかけられた。肉体的痛み、精神的恥辱、弟子達の裏切り、群衆からの罵りなど、様々な苦しみを体験したにも関わらず、彼は罪人達の赦しを神に祈った。この方こそが私達の神であり、救い主なのだ。イエスをメシアとして受け入れなかったユダヤ人達は、それ以来今日まで多くの苦しみを経験している。イエスこそが、祝福と呪いを分ける分水嶺なのだ。私達は彼を救い主として受けれ、祝福を受ける者となろう。
