After Noah, his family, and the animals boarded the Ark, the Lord sent a flood upon the earth. It rained for forty days and forty nights, and the earth was covered with water. Every living creature on the earth perished, but those on the Ark were saved from destruction. Noah and his family spent over a year on the Ark. During that time, God remembered them and protected them. The phrase “God remembered” appears several times in the Bible (Genesis 19:29, Exodus 2:24, Jeremiah 2:2, etc.). When the Bible says, “God remembers,” it means that He takes action to save those He cares about. God protected the Ark from the great flood and provided for the needs of the
people and animals inside. He did this because of the covenant He made with Noah (Genesis 6:18). Faith means entering into a covenant relationship with God. Through His death on the cross and His resurrection, Jesus Christ accomplished the atonement for the sins of humanity. Therefore, those who believe in Him are forgiven and can enter this relationship. God “remembers” those who are in covenant with Him. Just as the storm violently tossed Noah’s Ark about, our lives may sometimes face trials. However, God will surely protect us. After stepping off the Ark, the first thing Noah did was to build an altar and offer sacrifices to God. This act demonstrated his devotion as a worshipper. In 2 Chronicles 6, Solomon said, “You (God) keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.” Let us follow Noah’s example and devote ourselves wholeheartedly to God. God remembers us.
ノアと彼の家族、動物達が方舟に乗った後、主は地上に洪水を起こされた。雨は四十日四十夜降り続け、地は水に覆われた。すべての地の生き物は死に絶えたが、方舟に乗った者達は滅びから救われた。ノア達が方舟の中で過ごした期間は一年以上に渡ったが、神は彼らを覚えており、守られた。聖書には数回に渡って、「神が覚えておられた」という表現が使われている。(創世記19:29、出エジプト2:24、エレミヤ2:2など)聖書が、「神が覚えている」と言う時、それは神が心を留めている者達を救うために行動を起こす事を意味する。神は方舟を大洪水から守り、またその中にいた人々や動物達の必要を満たされた。神が彼らを守られた理由は、神がノアと結ばれた契約にある。(創世記6:18)信仰とは、神との契約関係に入る事を意味する。イエスキリストは十字架の死と復活を通して、人類の罪の贖いを完成させた。それ故、彼を信じる者は罪が赦され、神との契約関係に入る事が出来るのだ。神は契約関係にある者達を「覚えていて」下さる。時に私達の人生もノアの方舟のように嵐に会う事があるが、神は必ずや私達を守って下さる。方舟から降りたノアが最初にした事は、祭壇を築き、神にいけにえを捧げることであった。この行為から、彼が真の礼拝者であった事が伺える。「主は、心を尽くして御前に歩むしもべに対し、契約と愛とを守られる。」(第二歴代誌6:14)私達もノアに倣い、心を尽くして神の御前に歩もう。神は私達の事を覚えておられる。
