God tested Abraham’s faith and commanded him to offer his son Issac as a burnt offering. From a moral standpoint, this command is difficult for us to accept. However, behind this event lay God’s profound purpose. Abraham had grown old, and his faith had reached a state of maturity. He responded calmly to God’s command, without becoming emotional. He replied to God with just one word: “Hineni.” This means “Here I am.” This demonstrated that Abraham was prepared to obey God’s voice no matter what the circumstances. Obeying His voice, Abraham went to Moriah with Issac. When Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac, God stopped him and was greatly pleased with Abraham’s faith. This was because God saw that Abraham placed his complete trust in God’s word. God had told him two things that, at first glance, seemed contradictory. One was, “Through Isaac, your descendants will prosper,” and the other was, “Offer Isaac as a burnt offering.” Based on these two statements, Abraham concluded that even if he were to kill Isaac, God would raise him from the dead. This event foreshadowed that the Heavenly Father would later send Jesus Christ to the cross to atone for our sins. God stopped Abraham from sacrificing Isaac, but He allowed Jesus to die on the cross. The heartache Abraham experienced foreshadowed the pain that God would endure. God had prepared a ram to take Isaac’s place. After offering the ram, Abraham named that place “The Lord Will Provide.” If we live with unwavering faith in God, He will provide for all of our needs. Let us live trusting in the Almighty God.
神はアブラハムの信仰を試し、彼の息子イサクを全焼のいけにえ として捧げるよう命じた。この出来事は、道徳的な視点から考えると、私達には受け入れ難い。しかしながら、この物語の背後には深遠な神の意図があった。アブラハムは晩年になり、その信仰は円熟の域に達していた。一見受け入れ難い神からの命令に対し、彼は感情的になる事なく、冷静に応答した。彼は神に対したった一言「私はここにおります。(ヘブル語でヒネニ)」と答えた。これは、アブラハムがどのような状況下でも神の声に聞き従うという心構えを持っていたことを示している。神の命令に従い、アブラハムはイサクと共にモリヤに行った。アブラハムがイサクを屠ろうとナイフを持った手を挙げた時、主は彼を止めた。その時、神はアブラハムの信仰を非常に喜ばれた。何故ならば、神は、アブラハム が神の言葉に全幅の信頼を寄せているのを見たからだ。神は彼に二つの、一見矛盾するような事を語っていた。それらは、「イサクを通して彼の子孫は繁栄する」「イサクを全焼のいけにえとして捧げよ」であった。これら二つの言葉から、アブラハムが信じた事は、彼はイサクを殺すが、神がイサクを死者の中から蘇らせるという事であった。これら一連の出来事は、後に天の父が、私達の罪を贖うためにイエスキリストを十字架に架ける事を予表していた。神はアブラハムの手は止めたが、ご自分の一人子は死に明け渡された。神はイサクの身代わりとして、一頭の牡羊をモリヤに用意しておられた。それを捧げた後、アブラハムは「主は備えてくださる」と語った。私達が神に全幅の信頼を寄せる時、彼は私達のすべての必要を満たして下さる。全能の神を信じて生きよう。
