God made a covenant with Abraham. This covenant is still in effect today, and we can learn about it by studying history and world events. The Abrahamic Covenant has three parts: the promise of descendants, the promise of land, and the promise of spiritual blessings. Through Jesus Christ, Christians can receive spiritual blessings. We receive these blessing s by following Abraham’s example of faith. We will learn about his faith. Abraham was a pagan idol worshipper who lived in Ur of the Chaldees. God chose him and called him to become the ancestor of the Jewish people and the forefather of Jesus Christ. God commanded Abraham to do two things. First, God commanded him to move to the land that God would show him. Abraham obeyed, leaving his homeland and possessions behind to set out on a journey. In the original text, this command carries the meaning of “separate yourself.” In other words, God asked Abraham to leave his old culture behind and live in obedience to Him. Similarly, when we turn away from worldly values and follow God, we receive His blessings. Second, God commanded Abraham to be a blessing. While the Bible states, “You will be a blessing,” the original text uses the imperative form. Abraham blessed God as a worshiper and blessed others by helping his nephew Lot and welcoming travelers. Similarly, we can receive God’s blessings by becoming a blessing to God and to others. God keeps His covenant and shows steadfast love to those who serve Him with all their hearts. Let us follow Abraham’s example and serve God with all our hearts. Our God is faithful.
神はアブラハムと契約を結んだ。この契約は今日も有効であり、私達が歴史や世界情勢を見る時、それを理解する事が出来る。アブラハム契約は三つの条項から成る。子孫の約束、土地の約束、そして霊的祝福の約束である。クリスチャンはイエスキリストを通して、それらの条項の一つ、霊的祝福を受けることが出来る。それは私達がアブラハムの信仰に倣う事で受け取れるのだ。彼の信仰について学ぶ。アブラハムはカルデヤのウルに住む偶像礼拝者であった。神は彼を選び、彼からユダヤ民族、そしてイエスキリストを生み出すために召し出した。神は彼に二つの事を命じた。第一番目に、祖国を離れ、神が示す地に移住する事である。アブラハムは神の声に従い、自分の故郷や資産を捨てて旅に出た。原語を調べると、ここには「分離しろ」という意味がある事に気づく。つまり、神はアブラハムに対し、古い文化から分離し、神に従って生きる事を求めたのだ。同様に、私達もこの世的な価値観から離れ、神に従う事を選択する時、祝福を受ける。第二に、神はアブラハムに祝福となるよう命じた。聖書には「あなたは祝福となる」と記されているが、原語では命令形で記されている。アブラハムは礼拝者として神を祝福し、また甥のロトを助けたり、旅人をもてなしたりする事で、他者を祝福した。同様に、私達も神と人々への祝福となる事で、より神からの祝福を受けることが出来る。神は心を尽くして御前に歩む者達に対して、契約と愛とを守られる。私達はアブラハムに倣い、信仰によって生きよう。
