The Sadducees questioned Jesus about the resurrection of the dead. They held in a theological position that denied the
resurrection of the dead and the existence of heaven, and they tried to use a teaching of Moses to point out the contradictions in the resurrection teachings. In response, Jesus used the story of the burning bush in the book of Exodus to prove that there is a resurrection of the dead. When Moses saw the burning bush at Horeb, the mountain of God, he heard the voice of God from within it. God called Moses’ name and identified Himself, saying, “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. ” This was a name that indicates that God is the God who made a covenant with Abraham. Here God identifies Himself in the present tense as “I AM,” but since Abraham was in the past for Moses, it is grammatically correct to say, “I WAS.” However, God addressed Himself in the present tense. What does this mean? This indicates that Abraham is alive in heaven and that this covenant is still in effect today. Abraham died without seeing the fulfillment of the covenant, but God did not break His covenant. Abraham is still alive, and when Jesus returns, he will also appear on earth again and see the fulfillment of the promise with his own eyes. We, too, are promised the same spiritual blessings that Abraham received through Christ and God never breaks that promise. Sometimes difficulties come into our lives, but the
foundation of our lives is the promise of God’s blessing. Let us not be discouraged by temporary difficulties but live with
faith in this sure promise.

あり、モーセの教えを利用して、復活の教えの矛盾を指摘しようとしたのだ。それに対し、イエスは出エジプト記に記されている燃える柴の物語を用いて、死者の復活はある事を証明した。モーセが神の山ホレブで燃える柴を見た時、その中から神の声を聞いた。神はモーセの名を呼び、「私はアブラハムの神、イサクの神、ヤコブの神である」とご自分を名乗られた。これは、神がアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブと契約を結んだ神である事を示した名前である。英語の聖書では「I am」と現在形で書かれているが、モーセにとってアブラハムは過去の人であるため、文法的には「I was」と言うのが正しい。ところが神は現在形でご自分を名乗られた。これは何を意味するのか?これはアブラハムが現在も天において生きている事、そしてこの契約が現在も有効である事を示している。アブラハムは約束の成就を見る事なく死んだが、神はその契約を破ったのではない。彼はまだ生きていて、いずれイエスが再臨される時、アブラハムも再びこの地上に現れ、その目で約束の成就を見るのだ。私達にも、キリストを通して、アブラハムと同じ霊的祝福が与えられると約束されている。そして、神はその約束を決して破る事はない。時に、私達の人生に困難が押し寄せる事があるが、私達の人生の土台には神の祝福の約束があるのだ。一時的な困難に落胆せず、この確かな約束を信じて生きよう。
