In chapter1, Paul spoke of spiritual blessings, and at the beginning of chapter 2, he referred to our situation before we were saved. The Gentiles who didn’t know God and were following the ways of this world, and the Jews, who were God’s chosen people but were gratifying the cravings of their flesh, were both “by nature deserving of wrath.” In other words, both Gentiles and Jews were in a state of spiritual despair. However, God who is rich in mercy made us to live with Christ. There are only two ways for us to live: either to live in Christ or to follow the ways of this world. Even though, we were saved, if we live apart from Christ, it means we are following the current of this world. The key verse of chapter 2 is “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” For those of us who understand the spiritual blessings, it is important to sit firmly in that reality. The reason such wonderful grace has been given to us is so that we are motivated to preach the gospel. We are God’s workmanship, and God has a plan for our lives. When we live in Christ, God’s plan will be realized in our lives. The best way for Christian to live is to surrender everything to God. God’s plan is far superior to what we think of as our plan for life. Let us live trusting in God.
一章で、霊的祝福について語ったパウロは、二章で救われる前の私達の状況について言及した。神を知らず、この世の流れの中で生きていた異邦人、また選民でありながら、自らの肉の欲の中に生きていたユダヤ人、どちらも「生まれながらに御怒りを受けるべき」立場にあった。つまり、私達は霊的に絶望状態にあったのだ。しかしながら、憐れみ豊かな神は、そこに解決を与えて下さった。罪過の中に死んでいた私たちをキリストと共に生かして下さったのだ。私達には二通りの生き方しかない。キリストにあって生きるか、この世の流れに流されて生きるかだ。たとえ救われた私達であっても、キリストから離れて生きるならば、それは世の流れに従って生きている事を意味する。二章でのキーフレーズは、「キリスト・イエスにあって、ともによみがえらせ、ともに天の所にすわらせてくださいました。」である。自分達に与えられた霊的祝福を理解した私達は、その立場にしっかりと座す事が重要なのだ。これだけ素晴らしい恵みが私達に与えられた理由は、福音を宣べ伝えるためである。私達は神の作品であり、神は私達の人生に計画、つまり良い行いを備えておられる。私達がキリストにあって生きる時、神の計画は私達の人生に実現するのだ。キリスト者にとって最善の生き方は、神に全て委ねて生きる事である。神のご計画は、私達が考える人生計画よりも遥かに優れたものである。私達は全てを神の御手に委ねて生きよう。
