The Book of Genesis and the Gospel of John begin with the same phrase: “In the beginning.” God created the heavens and the earth, and Jesus Christ existed with God before that. In the work of creation, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit worked together. Verse 2 says, “The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep.” The words used in this verse signify chaos and emptiness in Hebrew. (According to Gap Theory, Satan was cast down from heaven to earth at this time.)Today, it could be said that chaos is spreading across the world. The global situation is unstable, and divisions among people are growing wider due to differences in political ideology. Additionally, values regarding gender and drugs have become highly diverse, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between good and evil. Furthermore, many people feel a sense of emptiness in life and are unable to find meaning or affirm themselves. However, the Holy Spirit moved upon the place of chaos and emptiness. Then God commanded, “Let there be light,” and light came into being. At this point, the sun had not yet been created. In other words, this light was the glory of God. When the Holy Spirit works, the glory of God shines upon places of chaos and emptiness. Then, order and hope will be born there. This year, God tells us, “If you believe, you will see the glory of God.” He desires to reveal His glory to us. In other words, God wants to bless us. To see God’s glory, we must trust Him. The darkness in this world and within us can never overcome the light of Jesus Christ. Let us live by faith and see the glory of God.
創世記とヨハネ福音書は同じフレーズで始まっている。それは「初めに」である。神が天と地を創造したが、イエスキリストはその前から神と共に存在した。創造の御業において、父と子、聖霊は共に働いたのである。2節を見ると「地は形がなく、何もなかった」とある。ここで使われている単語は、ヘブル語で混乱や虚しさを意味する。今日、世界では混乱が拡がっていると言えるだろう。世界情勢は不安定であり、また政治的思想の違いから人々の間に分断が拡がっている。また性や薬物に対する価値観も多様さを極め、善と悪を正しく判断する事が難しくなりつつある。更に、生きる意味を見出せなかったり、自らを肯定できなかったりして、人生に虚しさを抱えている者達も数なくない。しかしながら、混乱と虚しさのあった場所に聖霊が働きかけた。また神が「光よあれ」と命じるとそこに光が生まれた。この時、まだ太陽は創造されていなかった。つまり、この光とは神の栄光なのだ。聖霊が働く時、混乱や虚しさのあった場所に神の栄光が照らす。すると、そこに秩序や希望が生まれるのだ。今年、神は私達に「もし信じるなら、あなたは神の栄光を見る」と語る。神様は、私達にご自分の栄光を表す事を望んでおられる。つまり、神は私達を祝福しようとしておられるのだ。神の栄光を見るために私達に求められる応答は、彼を信頼する事である。この世界、そして私達の内に存在する闇は、決してイエスキリストの光に打ち勝つ事はできない。私達は信仰によって生きることで、神の栄光を見よう。
