The Scripture theme for Horizon Japanese Church in 2026 is “If you believe, you will see the glory of God.” God is about to perform miracles among us this year. What is required to experience God’s miracles is our faith. We will learn about faith through the story of Lazarus’ resurrection. Jesus arrived in Bethany four days after Lazarus died. At that time, the rabbis of Judaism taught that for three days after a person died, the spirit of the deceased lingered near the body. Therefore, people believed that within three days of death, it was possible to revive the deceased. Jesus waited for people to recognize that Lazarus was truly dead so He could reveal the glory of God. Jesus’ delayed arrival disappointed Martha and Mary, who expected Him to arrive sooner. Sometimes, God’s blessings come at a different time than we expect. When Jesus arrived at Bethany, Martha welcomed him, but there was a discrepancy in their conversation. Jesus had told her that He would raise Lazarus from the dead, but Martha did not believe Him. Although Martha believed in Jesus as the Messiah, her faith still had gaps. Jesus was trying to strengthen Martha’s faith through His words. After Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He commanded the people to remove the cloths from Lazarus’ body. These cloths symbolize the negative emotions that cling to our hearts — guilt, feelings of inferiority, regret for the past, and anxiety about the future. In order to witness God’s glory this year, we must free ourselves from these negative emotions and have absolute trust in Him. Let us walk by faith and witness His miracles!
2026年、ホライズン日本人教会の基調聖句は、「もし信じるなら、あなたは神の栄光を見る」である。神は今年、私達の間で奇跡を行おうとしている。それを経験するために求められているものは私達の信仰である。今日は、ラザロの蘇生の物語から信仰について学ぶ。イエスはラザロの死から、四日後にベタニアに到着した。当時のユダヤ教のラビ達は、人の死後三日間は死者が蘇生する可能性があると考えていた。つまり、イエスは神の栄光を表すために、人々がラザロの死を完全に認識するのを待ったのだ。イエスの到着の遅延は、マルタとマリアの期待を裏切ったが、時に神の祝福は私達が期待したのとは異なるタイミングで訪れる。ベタニアに到着したイエスをマルタが迎えたが、二人の会話には食い違いがあった。イエスはラザロを蘇らせると語ったのだが、マルタはそれを信じていなかったからだ。マルタはイエスをメシアとして信じていたが、彼女の信仰にはまだ欠けがあった。イエスの言葉から、彼がマルタの信仰を引き上げようとしていた事がわかる。彼は、私達の信仰を高嶺へと導かれる方である。イエスがラザロを蘇生させた後、彼は人々に、ラザロの体から布を取り除くよう命じた。この布は、私達の心にまとわりつくネガティブな感情を象徴している。それは、罪悪感や劣等感、過去への後悔や未来への不安などである。今年、私達が神の栄光を見るためにはそれらの感情から解放され、彼を絶対的に信頼する必要がある。信仰によって歩み、神の奇跡を体験しよう。
