Colossians 1:1-8/A life full of momentum/コロサイ人への手紙 1章1-8節 / 勢いある人生

At the time the letter to the Colossians was written, the Gospel was spreading rapidly throughout Asia Minor and Europe. In Colossae, evangelistic activities were carried out vigorously, and the gospel spread to the surrounding cities as well. In other words, the church in Colossae had momentum. In sports competitions, maintaining momentum is crucial for achieving victory. Similarly, maintaining momentum and drive is essential to church activities, personal growth, and spiritual development. Once lost, it becomes difficult to regain momentum. We learn from the Colossian church the secret to maintaining momentum. 1: They were filled with faith. False teachers had appeared in the Colossian church, spreading erroneous teachings. Nevertheless, the believers in Colossae resisted these harmful influences and remained faithful to Jesus. 2: They were rich in love. They showed love to all the saints. Their love must have testified to God’s love for people. 3: They had hope. The believers in Colossae held a clear hope for heaven. That hope gave them the strength to preach the gospel. In verse 6, Paul says, “The gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world —just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.” In other words, the gospel will only advance with momentum if we truly understand God’s grace. Those of us with a sinful nature tend to lose sight of God’s love and grace. Therefore, let us rely on the Holy Spirit and walk firmly in God’s grace.

この手紙が書かれた時代、小アジアとヨーロッパでは福音が勢いよく宣べ伝えられていた。コロサイでも福音宣教は活発であり、周辺の街々、フィラデルフィアやラオデキアにまで福音は広まっていた。つまり、コロサイ教会は勢いのある教会だったのだ。スポーツの試合において、勝利を得るためにはチームが勢いを保つことが重要である。それと同様に、教会活動や私達の人生、また私達の霊的成長にも勢いを保つ事が重要である。一度停滞すると、それを再び活性化させる事は非常に難しい。私達は、コロサイ教会から勢いを保つための秘訣について学ぶ。1:彼らは信仰に満ちていた。コロサイ教会には偽教師達が入り込み、間違った教えをしていた。しかしながら、コロサイの信徒達はそのような悪い影響力と戦い、イエスへの信仰を保っていた。2:彼らは愛に満ちていた。彼らはすべての聖徒達に対して愛を示していた。彼らの愛は、人々に神の愛を証ししていた事であろう。3:彼らは希望に満ちていた。コロサイの信徒達は天国への希望を明確に持っていた。その希望が彼らに福音宣教のための力を与えたのだ。6節でパウロはこう語っている。「この福音は、あなたがたが神の恵みを聞き、それをほんとうに理解したとき以来、あなたがたの間でも見られるとおりの勢いをもって、世界中で、実を結び広がり続けています。」つまり、福音が勢いよく前進するためには、私達が真に神の恵みを理解する必要があるのだ。罪の性質をもつ私達は、神の愛と恵みを見失う傾向がある。だからこそ、私達は聖霊により頼み、神の恵みにしっかりと立って歩もう。
