Paul said to the Christians in Philippi, “Rejoice in the Lord always.” We are learning about Christ’s mindset through the Epistle to the Philippians, and this teaching is the essence of His mindset. How can we always rejoice? Paul said in Chapter 3 verses 20-21, “Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” In other words, we can be sure of entering heaven, where we will have glorious bodies. That is our ultimate hope. By focusing on this hope, we can rejoice always. Then Paul said, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (v.6) It is not easy for us to be completely free from anxiety. Here, Paul encourages us to offer prayers and thanksgiving to God. By doing so, our focus shifts from our problems and worries to God’s grace. This change in perspective allows us to obtain the peaceof God. Jesus said, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” (Matthew 6:26) We become anxious when we believe that we are living solely by our own efforts. However, when we realize that we are being nourished by our heavenly Father, we are freed from anxiety. Let us find peace in Christ by focusing on God’s grace.
パウロはピリピのクリスチャン達に対して「いつも喜んでいなさい」と語った。私達は、ピリピ書を通してキリストの心構えについて学んでいるが、この教えこそがその真骨頂と言えるだろう。どうして私達は、いつも主にあって喜ぶことができるのか?その理由について、パウロは3章20〜21節で次のように語った。「私たちの国籍は天にあります。キリストは、万物をご自身に従わせることのできる御力によって、私たちの卑しいからだを、ご自分の栄光のからだと同じ姿に変えてくださるのです。」つまり、私達は確実に天国に入る事が出来、そこで栄光の体を頂けるのだ。それこそが、私達の究極的な希望である。この希望に目を向ける時、私達はたとえ困難の中にあったとしても喜ぶ事が出来る。続けてパウロはこう語った。「何も思い煩わないで、あらゆる場合に、感謝をもってささげる祈りと願いによって、あなたがたの願い事を神に知っていただきなさい。」(6節)全ての思い煩いから解放される事は、一見私達にとって難しい事に感じる。パウロはここで私達に対し、感謝と祈りを神に捧げるよう励ましている。私達が感謝と祈りを捧げる時、私達の視点は問題や心配事から、神の恵みへと移される。視点が変わる事によって、私達は神の平安を得る事が出来るのだ。イエスは「空の鳥を見なさい。種蒔きもせず、刈り入れもせず、倉に納めることもしません。けれども、あなたがたの天の父がこれを養っていてくださるのです」と語った。私達が自らの力で生きようとする時、私達は思い煩うようになるが、天の父から養われていると自覚する時、そこから解放されるのだ。神の恵みに目を向けることで、私達はキリストにある平安を持とう。
