We are studying Paul’s letter to the Philippians under the theme of “having the mindset of Christ.” At the church in Philippi, there was a problem with a legalistic Christian teacher who came and taught false teachings. Paul said that legalistic thinking is childish and stated, “All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things.” (v.15) We will learn about the view of spiritually mature people. 1: Mature people focus on spiritual matters and do not become overly attached to worldly matters. Legalistic teachers in Paul ’s time boasted about worldly matters, such as circumcision. In contrast, Paul said that he used to consider himself superior to everyone else in worldly matters. However, after becoming a Christian, he came to value worldly matters no higher than garbage. This was because he knew the surpassing worth of knowing Christ. 2: Mature people consider themselves to be in a process of growth. Paul said, “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. ” (v.14) In other words, he was striving to grow spiritually. Mature people never stop growing spiritually. 3: Mature people pursue only one thing. Paul said, “ One thing I do.” (v.13) When we try to gain many things, our lives become complicated. Paul sought only one thing: the prize that would be given to him in heaven. 4: Mature people do not look back on the past but continue to strive toward the future. Through Christ, all of our sins have been forgiven. Like Paul, we should press forward with all our strength, knowing that we are not bound by the past. Let us strive to become spiritually mature.
私達は、「キリストの心」をテーマにピリピ人への手紙を学んでいる。ピリピ教会では、律法主義的クリスチャン教師が来て間違った教えをしていたという問題があった。パウロは、律法主義的思想は幼稚であると言い、「成人である者はみな、このような考え方をしましょう」(15節)と語った。今日は、霊的に成熟した者の考え方について学ぶ。1:成熟した者は世的な事よりも、霊的な事柄を重んじる。律法主義的教師達は、割礼がある事など、世的な事を誇りとしていた。それに対しパウロは、自分は世的な事柄に関しては、誰よりも優れていたが、今はそれらをちりあくたと考えるようになったと語った。何故ならば、彼はキリストを知ることの絶大な価値を知ったからだ。成熟した人間は、世的な誇りへの執着から解放され、キリストを知ることや、神の家族との交わり、福音を伝えることの喜びに重きを置く。2:成熟した人間は、自分が霊的成長過程にあると考える。パウロは「私は、すでに得たのでもなく、すでに完全にされているのでもありません。ただ捕らえようとして、追求しているのです」(12節)と語った。つまり、彼はより霊的に成長しようと努めていたのだ。成熟した人間は、たとえ高齢になって も霊的成長を止めない。3:成熟した人間は、一つの事に集中する。パウロは「この一事に励んでいます」と語った。多くのものを得ようとすると、私達の人生は複雑になる。パウロはたった一つのもの、キリストにある神の栄冠を求めていた。4:成熟した者は、後ろのものを忘れて、前のものに向かって進む。私達はキリストによって、すべての罪が赦された。私達は過去に捉われず、パウロのように前に向かって一心に進むのだ。霊的に成熟した者になろう。
