“Hineni” is a Hebrew phrase that means “ Here I am”. These are the words of man’s response to God’s calling. In the Bible, there are six believers who responded to God with “ Hineni”. They are Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Samuel, Isaiah, and Ananias, the main character in today’s story. While the five men listed above are famous figures in the Bible, Ananias was not a well -known Christian. However, God called him to an important ministry, and he responded, “Hineni. ” After meeting the resurrected Jesus, Saul temporarily lost his sight. Led by his companions, he entered Damascus and stayed in the house of Judas. Ananias knew that Saul was a persecutor and hesitated to help him, but finally obeyed the voice of God. Saul’s sight was restored through Ananias’ prayers, and he began to preach the gospel. Saul’s central message was that “Jesus is the Son of God.” When the Bible uses the expression “son of,” it indicates the nature of the person. In other words, Saul testified that Jesus was God Himself. Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father,” and we can know God through knowing Jesus. We have the Spirit of Jesus, God Himself, within us. The Spirit teaches us, helps us, and empowers us to serve God. Just as Ananias, an unknown believer, was used by God, God will use us as well. When God gives us a mission, let us respond to Him, saying, “Hineni. Here I am!” God needs us and uses us for His wonderful work.
