It is good for us to have ideals in our lives. However, at the same time, it is necessary to examine whether these ideals really have good or bad influences on our lives. God gave Israel a law. It was a wonderful law filled with the love and kindness of God. However, the Israelites failed to keep it, and as a result, the nation was destroyed, and they were dispersed throughout the world. Why didn’t this ideal law work? First, the law was a fear-based covenant. When God gave the Law to Moses, Mount Sinai trembled with thunder and the people were terrified. It was intended to make the people keep the law through fear, but it had the opposite effect. Second, it was a law written in letters on a tablet and had no power to help the people. Third, the law directed people’s focus to deeds. As a result of focusing on righteous deeds, people had downplayed their relationships with God and people. So, God gave mankind a new covenant, which was concluded by the cross and resurrection of Jesus. The new covenant has completely taken away our sins, and the Holy Spirit teaches us God’s law. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit renews our minds and helps us to fulfill the law. As a result, our minds and deeds are united, and our hearts and thoughts are united. The unity of our minds and thoughts are the most important thing for us to live happily. The key to this is to worship God, and when we praise Him sincerely, the Holy Spirit brings the wavelengths of our hearts and thoughts together.
私達が人生において理想を掲げる事は良い事である。しかしながら、同時にその理想が本当に人生に良い影響を与えているのか、あるいは悪影響を及ぼしているのかを吟味する必要がある。神はイスラエルに律法を与えた。それは神の愛と優しさに満ちた素晴らしい律法であった。ところがイスラエルの民はそれを守り行う事が出来ず、結果的に国は滅ぼされ、彼らは世界に離散する事になってしまった。どうしてこの理想的な律法は機能しなかったのか? 第一番目に、それは恐れに土台した掟であった。神がモーセに律法を与えた時、シナイ山は雷鳴と共に震え、民は恐怖に怯えた。それは恐れによって民に掟を守らせるためであったが、それは逆効果となってしまった。第二に、それは板に文字で書かれた掟であり、民を助ける力は持っていなかった。第三番目に、その掟は人々の焦点を行いに向けさせた。正しい行いに焦点を向けた結果、人々は神との関係や人間関係を尊ばなくなってしまった
のだ。そのような人類のために神は新しい契約を与えてくださり、それはイエスの十字架と復活により締結された。新しい契約は、私達の罪を完全に取り除き、また聖霊が私達に神の律法を教えてくださる。更に、聖霊は私達の心を新しくし、神の律法を全うできるよう助けて下さるのだ。その結果、私達の心と行いが一致し、また私達の心と思いが一致する。心と思いの一致こそが、私達が幸福に生きるために最も重要な事である。そのための鍵は神を礼拝する事であり、私達が心から神を褒め称える時、聖霊によって私達の心の波長と思いの波長が一つとなる。
